Ferdinand F. Klebold, 95, of Lakewood, NJ, formerly of Toms River, passed away on July 9, 2017, at Harrogate Health Care Center of Lakewood, NJ. Son of Ferdinand F. J. and Ruth Hendry Klebold, he was born in Orange, NJ, and spent most of his life in Toms River and Seaside Park. He was a Real Estate Broker with the Ocean Beach Rental Agency for forty years. He was the author of “Pound Fishing Bay Head to South Seaside Park, NJ”, two maps of the Barnegat Bay Area 1777 to 1877, and two pamphlets “Building the North Jetty on Island Beach, Barnegat Inlet” and the “Bumble Bee Project on Island Beach”.
In 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, landed on Omaha Beach, June 7, 1944, as a member of the 7th Beach Battalion. He also served in the Pacific aboard the U.S.S. Allendale, landing on Okinawa April 1, 1945.
He was multi- talented with a variety of interests. He enjoyed get-togethers with family and friends and a good glass of wine. He also enjoyed sailing, boating, clamming on Barnegat Bay, picking beach plums, and making jelly at Island Beach. He will be dearly missed.
He was a member of the Ocean County Historical Society since 1960 and received the first Pauline S. Miller lifetime achievement award in 2012.
Ferdinand was predeceased by his wife Nancy Musser, and his brothers Thomas Hendry and John Donald Klebold. He is survived by his nieces, Lynda Klebold and Marilee Janeczek and her husband Tony, and their children Brian and Amanda Janeczek. He is also survived by his nephew Charles Musser, and nieces Jane M. Nelson and Nancy M. Sutton.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name may be made to one’s favorite charity. Cremation was private under the direction of Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home of Toms River.
