Elizabeth Pauline (Betty) Gray, 80, of Toms River, passed away on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at Community Medical Center in Toms River. Born in Bayville, Miss Gray had resided in Asbury Park for 25 years before moving to Leisure Village in Lakewood in 1982 and recently to Toms River. A 1947 graduate of Toms River High School, she attended Monmouth, Brookdale and Ocean County College. Miss Gray was a long-time legal secretary, and served as Judicial Secretary to Superior Court Judge Howard Ewart of Toms River and Appellate Division Presiding Judge Milton Conford of Elberon. She operated a Secretarial Service in Ocean Grove in the 1970's. Miss Gray retired in 1993 as Shorthand Reporter and Administrative/Budget Officer from the Fort Monmouth Inspector General's Office. She enjoyed reading, music, walking the boardwalk and spending time with her family and friends.
She was predeceased by her mother, Grace Norcross Gray, her brother Harry Gray in 1963, her sister Sara Gray Lloyd in 1982, her brother Elmer Gray in 2003 and brother-in-law Linuel P. Lloyd Jr. Aunt Betty was a thoughtful, supportive, and loving aunt to her many nieces and nephews in the Gray and Lloyd families. She was also survived by two sisters-in-law, Mary Jane Gray and Shirley Gray; and many great-nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Gathering will be held on Sunday, September 3, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. until the Memorial Service at 2:30 p.m. at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main St. Toms River. Cremation will be private. In lieu of flowers donations in Miss Gray's memory may be made to Deborah Heart and Lung Center, 200 Trenton Road, Browns Mills, NJ 08015, 1-800-555-1990.
