It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dorothy Lee Riccardi, known lovingly as Dotti, Mom, Mom-Mom, and Mumsie, on November 30, 2024, at the age of 100. Dotti was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, and friend whose warmth, strength, and kindness touched all who knew her.
Born in New Brunswick on April 12, 1924, Dotti was the second oldest child of Forest and Elsie Harpe. She grew up during the Great Depression and World War II, which shaped much of her strong spirit. She married her sweetheart Andy Riccardi on September 14, 1941, in a double wedding with her older sister Connie, who married Andys brother, Nelson. Dorothy and Andy shared a life of love and partnership, raising their four children, Andrew (Skip), Andrea, Michael, and David while maintaining a close-knit bond with their extended family.
Dotti and Andy settled next door to Connie and Nelson on Franklin Avenue in Toms River where Dotti lived for almost 70 years. Their children were raised together. Dotti and Connie were often together, playing Boggle, pool, and ping pong. Dotti was a proud homemaker and her commitment to her family was unwavering. She gave the best of herself to every relationship, whether as wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend.
She was a woman of deep faith and a member of St. Josephs Church for 94 years. Dottis faith sustained her through life's many challenges, including the loss of her beloved Andy in 1990. Dotti embodied grace and determination—whether it was her meticulous attention to detail when knitting and crocheting, her unwavering care for her loved ones, or her unshakable devotion to her faith.
Her kitchen was a place where family gathered for the delicious meals she lovingly prepared, from homemade ravioli to perfectly baked pies. Dotti took great pride in creating a welcoming home. She is remembered for her love of animals, especially her miniature French poodle, Cubby, and for her quiet acts of kindness—always there to lend an ear, offer comfort, or share her wisdom. She had an ability to make others feel special, whether by sending the perfect Hallmark card with a heartfelt note or by giving thoughtful, hand-crafted gifts.
Dorothy was predeceased by her beloved husband, Andy Riccardi, and her siblings Connie and Bud, brother-in-laws Nelson and Stu and daughter-in-law, Andrea. She is survived by her sisters Reet, Barbara, and Bernadette; her children, Andrew (Skip) Riccardi, Andrea Riccardi, Michael Riccardi (Kitty), and David Riccardi; her 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild, as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Dorothy's family will remember her as a true matriarch—her strength, grace, and love holding them together through all of life's many changes. Her laughter was contagious, her heart was infinite, and her smile could light up any room. She was, above all, home to all who knew her.
A visitation for Dorothy will be held Monday, December 16, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main Street, Toms River, NJ 08753. A funeral mass will occur Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 685 Hooper Ave, Toms River, NJ 08753. Final prayers will take place Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St Joseph's Cemetery, Cedar Grove Rd, Toms River, NJ 08753.
