

Don Voorhees, 74, of the Holiday City South section of Berkeley Township passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at home. Born in Plainfield, he grew up in Rahway and lived in South River for many years before moving to Toms River in 1985. He settled in Holiday City South in 2001.
A US Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War, Mr. Voorhees was the manager of the New York Waterfront Commission from 1968 until his retirement in 2001. He attended Rutgers University, and was a member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 16-05 for over 30 years. He enjoyed Fishing, boating and going to the beach, and was a classic car enthusiast, particularly Mustangs. He was loved by everyone who knew him.
Predeceased by his sister, Judy Voorhees, Mr. Voorhees is survived by his wife, Libby; his daughters, Deborah Greenhouse and her husband James of Toms River, Christina Tchir and her partner Craig Lauten of Bradley Beach, and Diana Fiore of Toms River; his grandchildren, Marissa, Emma, Cody, Gabriella and Evan; His step-grandchildren, Andrew and Jason; his great-grandson, Jaiden; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Cremation was private under the care of Horizon Funeral and Cremation Services, 1329 Route 37 West, Toms River. A memorial visitation and service will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2020 from 4-6pm at the funeral home.
