Clarence was born to Pearl and Walden Wright on November 27th, 1924 in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Like many families migrating to the northern states in the first half of the last century, his family relocated to Brooklyn, New York when he was only five. Clarence spent his youth in Brooklyn.
Clarence was truly part of “Our Greatest Generation” and enlisted in the United States Army in August 1943 and courageously served in World War II to help liberate Europe, receiving an Honorable Discharge and other honors. After his military service, Clarence began his professional career, where he became a master electrician with over 40 years of service working for New York City Transit, the Consolidated Edison Co., and Waldes Kohinoor in NYC as Supervisor of Electrical Maintenance. Clarence retired in 1989, after residing in Queens Village, NY for many years, and then moved to Barnegat, NJ in the late 1990’s, before finally settling in Toms River in 2015. In a very active retirement, Clarence proudly served as an usher at Pinelands Reformed Church in Toms River.
Clarence’s life was made complete when he and Patricia Beatrice Lynch were married on June 16, 1970. Pat found her “Mr. Wright” and they shared a wonderful marriage of 53 years and created very deep relationships through the three constants within their bond: Faith, Family and Friends. This magnificent couple was blessed to see the world together. They traveled on cruises where the always-dapper Clarence where he inherited the name “Captain”, opened their homes to families and friends for over six decades for holiday gatherings and special occasions, and traveled on highways to numerous states to support and be a vibrant part of the lives of their loved ones.
Clarence was a most powerful example of a multi-talented “Renaissance Man''. He was an electrician, plumber, carpenter, tailor, cook, intellectual, and philosopher. Importantly, Clarence was known for always being there for family and friends when they needed his help with problems or renovations regarding their homes and cars. Clarence masterfully remodeled several of his homes and oversaw the construction of their home in Barnegat, NJ.
Clarence is survived by his wife Patricia, sister Toni, and was preceded in death by brothers William, Raymond, Eugene, and sister Marion. Clarence is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved him dearly.
Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers for Clarence and his family!
