Born in Fords, NJ, he resided there and in Brick, NJ before settling in Toms River 15 years ago.
Prior to retiring after 33 years, Bruce was a millwright welder and capacity assurance coordinator at General Motors Corporation. He was also a captain for the US Coast Guard, with his 100 ton license. He was an avid fisherman, and would sail charter fishing boats and sight and seeing cruises. Bruce was very proud to be a founder of the Jersey Coast Shark Anglers Association and a member of the Greater Pt. Pleasant Charter Boat Association. A local celebrity, Bruce was known by those who loved him as the "Manasquan Dundee."
Bruce was predeceased by his first wife, Ann in 2011; and his mother, Anne in 2008.
Surviving are his loving wife of 8 years, Karen; his children: Roxanne Murphy and her husband Jack, Lisa Herbert and her husband John, Kevin Miller, and Samantha Tipa and her boyfriend Nick; his grandchildren: Kyle Murphy and his girlfriend Tabitha, Leland Murphy, and Gordon Murphy and his wife Erica; three great-grandchildren: Quinn, Elliott, and AJ; his sister, Beverly Judge and her husband Martin; and many other extended family members and friends.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2024 from 4-8PM at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Road, Toms River. A service will be held in conjunction with the visitation at 7:30PM. Private cremation will follow.
