Bert was born in Richmond, KY to Dorothy and Harold Cornelison. He grew up in Kentucky and attended Male High School in Louisville. He joined the Army right out of High School and began his travels and career. Fayetteville NC was his favorite base. He served two tours in Viet Nam. His work ethic and accomplishments led to his being appointed to the rank if Warrant Officer. In his second tour to Germany he met and married his wife Sally 42 years ago. She worked for the DOD and was teaching Art. They married on her lunch break on Memorial Day 1981.
They moved to Junction City, KS for his last tour before he retired. They raised a son together, Matthew Peter Cornelison, who lives in Wayne, NJ with his wife Marianna DelMonaco Cornelison and their son Matthew Lewis Cornelison.
Bert retired on 28 February 1985 after 21 years in the Army and began his second career of 25 years as a government contractor at Fort Monmouth in Tinton Falls, NJ.
Anyone who knew Bert knew that he was a kind, and gentle man who worked hard and who could usually do anything that he put his mind to. He loved and protected his family; he loved to travel with Sally and Matt and we had many adventures camping. He also loved a good meal from steak to Mexican and was an excellent barbeque grill master.
He is survived by his loving wife Sally and his loving sons Mark Cornelison, Matt Cornelison his wife Marianna and grandson Matty. He is also survived by his sisters Brenda Cornelison, Kathy Cornelison and Patty Turner, all of Louisville, KY and his Aunt Lula Selig (his father’s sister)from Florida.
He is predeceased by his Mother Dorothy , his father Harold, his brother Billy Cornelison and his son Bert M Cornelison, Jr
