It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mum, Barbara Lambert of Holiday City South, Berkeley, NJ. Mum passed away surrounded by her loving family with warmth and prayers in her home.
Born and raised in British India to Harold and Doris Alberts, Barbara was the youngest of four loving sisters, Maureen, Peggy, and Joyce and their cousin Rita who was like a fifth sister, who all predeceased her. She received an outstanding education while attending Catholic school in the Himalayan town of Naintal. Her favorite subject was geography. It was while attending school that she developed a desire to travel the world. In the late 1940’s she sailed with her mother and father to Southampton, England to join her sisters in pursuit of this dream. Shortly after arriving she began her career with the Cunard Line. This is where she met the love of her life Jerry, who also was employed by Cunard. They married in 1954 and sailed to New York City aboard the RMS Queen Elizabeth on their Honeymoon. It was in NYC where Jerry accepted a new and exciting position with Cunard. Their new life in the United States began and they moved to the suburbs of Old Bridge, NJ where they raised their 5 children, just a short walking distance from St. Ambrose Church. This was and always will be a very happy chapter in Barbara’s life.
The desire to travel continued with many visits back home to England and abroad. These travels continued in the US when Barbara moved to Holiday City. She enjoyed many adventures with the new friends she made at the Clubhouse. She always kept a suitcase close and shoes ready to go at the door. She rarely, if ever, refused an invitation to go somewhere with one of her five children be it driving up the coast of California, braving the snow of the Rocky Mountains, or just enjoying beach life in Delaware and the Jersey Shore.
Barbara will be remembered as a loving Wife, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Aunty, Sister, and friend. Her smile was infectious and contagious. Everyone who met her would say the same. She radiated warmth and happiness that will be missed. She was truly one of a kind.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Jerry. Surviving are her sons Tony (Blanche), John (Carolyn), Brian (Janie), Susan (John) O’Brien, Diane (Kathy Redling), along with grandchildren Laura Lambert (Ed Steffen), Keith Lambert, Patrick O’Brien, Matthew (Vish) O’Brien, Joseph (Lucy) O’Brien, Audrey Lambert and her fiancé Josef Manwaring, Liam Lambert and great grandchildren Ryan Steffen, Taj and Gia O’Brien. She was also blessed to have a loving caregiver and friend, Maia and many loving nieces and nephews both here in the States and England..
A visitation for Barbara will be held Saturday, February 18, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main Street, Toms River, NJ 08753.
