Anthony R. Carrubba of Toms River passed away Thursday, March 3, 2022 at age 76. He was a devoted husband, father, brother and Papa to his three grandsons. He was lovingly known as Tinny to his family and friends and Tony to his colleagues and associates.
Tinny was born in Newark, NJ and raised in Clifton, NJ. He relocated to Brick, NJ in 1981. He graduated from Clifton High School. Tinny worked in the car business for over 45 years touching many lives along the way. Everyone called him for advice, his honest, gentle spirit drew people to him. He truly enjoyed meeting new people and sharing stories about his life. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need.
Family was everything to Tinny. He was so proud of his daughters, his son in law and grandsons and he reminded them of this every day. He made sure to attend every sporting event (and there were A LOT) for his “boys” so that he could cheer them on. They left every game knowing that Papa was proud! Tinny loved golfing and lived to find bargains on coats, shoes and hats. He never went a day without playing the lottery. Cooking was his passion! We couldn’t chase him away from the grill or stove during Sunday dinner. If you were lucky enough to join us, he’d be mixing you up a drink trying to make you feel welcome. When he disappeared from the room, he’d likely be found outside on a chair soaking in the sun.
Tinny is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Odette Carrubba, daughter Lisa Dowd and husband James Dowd, daughter Jennifer Harrison, grandsons James Dowd Jr., Anthony Dowd and Logan Harrison, brother Paul Carrubba and wife Betty Carrubba, sister Josephine Marabondo and husband John Marabondo, sister in law Joyce Carrubba and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial gathering on Thursday March 10, 2022 from 3 pm to 7 pm at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home 26 Mule Road Toms River, NJ 08755. A memorial service will be celebrated at 6:30 pm. In lieu of flowers please make donations in Anthony’s memory to the charity of your own choice.
