ANNA J. IORIO, (nee Varsalona), 98, of Berkeley Township, died peacefully on January 9, 2023. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Anna was born and raised in Jersey City and married Vincent Iorio in 1946. She lived in Ridgefield Park and Carteret from 1950 to 1990 before moving to Berkeley Township. She was a fund raiser for the March of Dimes when in Ridgefield Park and a member of the Italian American Club in Toms River. She was proud of her Italian heritage, had strong religious beliefs, and was passionately devoted to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. They were all raised on Nana's homemade Italian cookies.
Anna was predeceased by her husband, parents and eight siblings. Surviving her are her three children; Nicholas, (wife, Lorri), Jo-Anna, (husband, Thomas), and Salvatore (wife, Cathryn); seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on January 20, 2023 from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM at the Quinn Hopping Funeral Home, Toms River, followed by a funeral mass at the St. Maximilian Kolbe Roman Catholic Church, Toms River, at 12:00 PM. A private burial will be held at a later date at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Wrightstown, where Anna will be laid to rest with her husband, Vincent. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) that broadcasts Catholic masses and the saying of the rosary that provided great solace to Anna during her later years.
