Ann S. Applegate, 77, of Toms River, passed away on Thursday, November, 28, 2013 at home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Newark, Ann was a longtime resident of Toms River. After graduating from Toms River High School in 1954, she received a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Wilson College in Chambersburg, PA. Ann pursued her love of education and children for 25 years with the Toms River Regional School District, retiring as a special education teacher. She was a faithful member of the Presbyterian Church of Toms River for over fifty years; Ann was an elder of the church, volunteered on several session committees, played in two handbell choirs, and a member of the Adah women’s circle. The apple of her eye was her family; spending time with them meant the world to her.
She was predeceased by her parents Elliott “Doc” and Grace Stofflet. Surviving are her beloved husband of 55 years Laurie “Larry” Applegate; her children of Toms River, Larry Jr., Scott and his wife Marci and Barbara Byrne and her husband Neal; a cousin Mary Kirk Stofflet of CA; and her grandchildren Paul, Ciara, Aimee and Elenora.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 14 at 11:00 am at the Presbyterian Church of Toms River, 1070 Hooper Ave., Toms River. Cremation is private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Ann’s memory to Van Dyke Hospice, 99 Route 37 West, Toms River, NJ 08755 or The House of Hope in Toms River in care of the Presbyterian Church.
