Kathleen (Kathie) Bishop Crick, 74, of Waddell, AZ passed away on May 22, 2024, from complications related to cancer. Kathleen was born on May 28, 1949, to Philip and Phyllis Bishop (both deceased) in Alhambra, California. She was the third of five children. Kathie is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Dean Crick, their daughters, Kelley Davis (Mike), Carole Chambers, and Dana Webb (Rick) as well as her sisters, Margie Bishop, Liz Bishop and Chris Otto, brother Phil Bishop and his wife Candy. Kathie is also survived by seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, seven nieces and nephews, numerous other extended family members, and many loyal friends.
Most of her formative years were spent growing up in Santa Cruz, CA. Kathie was an adorable, curly-haired spitfire. She was always active and was a cheerleader in high school. After graduating from Soquel High School, she attended Arizona Bible College and Capernwray Bible School in England.
At age 25 she was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and moved from Santa Cruz to the warmer, dryer climate of Phoenix, AZ. It was there that she met her future husband, Dean Crick at West End Baptist Church in Phoenix, AZ. They were married on May 23, 1981. After a few years they purchased land in Waddell, AZ and built a beautiful home where they have resided since 1998.
The center of her life with Dean was their faith in Jesus Christ. They attended West End Baptist Church, where Dean is a deacon and Kathie served as the treasurer for over 35 years. She was an artistically gifted person, perfecting many creations in Tole Painting. But it was quilting that ultimately took center stage in her hobby world. She was a master quilter, making countless quilts and teaching others the art of quilting.
Kathie was caring and radiated kindness to all who knew her. It has also been said that she never met a stranger. She accepted everyone with an open heart, open arms, and a perpetual smile. She had immense passion for her family. She loved to work puzzles, and play cards and dominoes, where she was quietly competitive. She was the only Grandma that carried a Nintendo DS in her purse. She had the best laugh.
Her departure is a great loss to her family and friends, but the family also rejoices that she is now at home in heaven. The family deeply appreciates your support during this difficult time. Please feel free to share your condolences to the family and also share memories of our beloved Kathie through this website.
A memorial service will be held at West End Baptist Church, 9101 W. Indian School Road, Phoenix, Arizona on July 27, 2024, at 10 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to West End Baptist Church (PO Box 158, Waddell, AZ 85355) in memory of Kathie Crick.
