TOLLESBORO -- Maurice Wendell Kennedy, 57, of Quicks Run Road in Vanceburg died Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011, at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington. He is survived by his wife, Sue Switzer Kennedy.
Mr. Kennedy was born in Quicks Run March 6, 1954, to Thelma Polley Kennedy of Vanceburg and the late William "Bill" Kennedy. A lifetime resident of the Quicks Run community, Mr. Kennedy was a barge loader. He had worked for Carmeuse Lime and Stone for 13 years and Wald Manufacturing for 26 years. He was also a lifelong farmer.
Mr. Kennedy was a member and Sunday school teacher at Hickory Grove Church in Tollesboro.
Also surviving Mr. Kennedy are his children, Lisa (Katsumi) Kennedy Wellman and Wendy (Jeremy) Kennedy Noble, both of Tollesboro; two grandchildren, Kennedy Faith Wellman and Drew Noble; a sister, Carol Bivens of Quicks Run; brothers and sisters-in-law, Wayne and Thelma King of Bucyrus, Ohio; Tom and Vickie Switzer of Greenup; Jane Yates of Germantown; Rick Switzer of Vanceburg; Kathy and Johnny Wilson of Vanceburg; Donna and Mike Grayson of Tollesboro, Robin and Ray Polley of Vanceburg, Chuck and Debbie Switzer of Vanceburg and Carol Switzer of Portsmouth, Ohio; several nieces and nephews; a very special friend, Terry Highfield; and his Hickory Grove Church Family.
Funeral services for Mr. Kennedy will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2 at Hickory Grove Church with Pastor Charles Emmons and Brother Mike Grayson officiating. Burial in Muses Chapel Cemetery on Quicks Run Road in Vanceburg.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Nov. 1 from 5-9 p.m. at the church.
