but as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again”.
William Glasco Owens, Sr., son of the late James and Mable Owens, was born on September 18, 1932 in Baltimore County, MD. During the evening of April 6, 2024, William peacefully transitioned this life after a brief illness. In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by a loving son Gary Owens, grandson Andre’ Lovelist, six brothers and three sisters.
William was born, raised and educated in Baltimore County. After many diligent years of service, William retired from the Baltimore County School system. Throughout his years, William developed a passion for horseracing and other sports. He very seldom missed an opportunity to watch a race on television after he could no longer go to the track. William would talk for hours after watching his favorite Baltimore Orioles and Ravens.
Traveling with family and friends truly created many long-lasting memories. Hawaii, Las Vegas, Charlestown, and Dover were just a few of the places that brought joy to William. Televised westerns were another favorite pass time. Cooking for family and friends was a must for William. Everything he prepared was outstanding to include his baked ribs and sauerkraut, meatloaf, and steamed shrimp along with his homemade cocktail sauce. To top it off, William’s most famous, iced cold whiskey sours will truly be missed.
With an extended love for music, William’s favorite artists were Sade, Roberta Flack and Glady Knight. Michael Jackson’s “With a Child Heart” always remained his favorite.
William leaves to cherish his memory his children: William, Jr. (Retha), Jacqueline and Gwendolyn; seven grandchildren: Keisha, Trina, April, Asia, Latoshia (Kevin), Amanda (Chrishan) and Kerrie; seventeen great-grandchildren: Ronald, Roneisha, Tiffany, Tyree, Basia, Brooke, Bryan, Kyra, Shaila, Saniya, Gary, Mark, Dillion, A-Dreama, Roderick, Destiny, and Simiyah; four great-great grandchildren: Brandon, Jr., Kalyn, Kaniyah and Nijae; sisters: Margaret Lyons and Virginia Mayfield; brother: Melvyn Owens; loving companion: Deborah Saddler ; goddaughter: Sylvia Hall-Johnson and a host of other nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Dear Dad
Gone yet not forgotten, although we are apart,
Your spirit lives within us, forever in our hearts.
Ting, Jackie and Gwenny
