William “Herb” Hale, 93, passed away on Jan. 27, 2021. He was the beloved husband of the late Anna Catherine (Miller) Hale. Born October 13, 1927 in Alesia, Md., he was the son of the late William and Hilda (Lauer) Hale and raised by the late Lawrence R. and Charlotte (Oler) Hale.
Mr. Hale was a graduate of Forest Park High School Class of 1945 and then served in the US Navy during World War II. He was a devoted sports fan who enjoyed horseracing at Pimlico, the Baltimore Ravens, the Baltimore Orioles, and golf. He worked for 42 years at the B&O/C&O Railroad at Charles Center in downtown Baltimore and survived polio in 1954. He will be remembered for his quiet laid-back personality and kind spirit.
Mr. Hale was preceded in death by his sisters, Maxine Miller and Dorothy Matthews and by his brother, Robert Hale. He was the father of Gary Lee Hale, David Alan Hale, and Lawrence “Larry” R. Hale and wife Iryna.
Service and Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mr. Hale’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
