Unexpectedly on September 24, 2022 Thomas P. Cernik passed away. Tom was born in Wisconsin but lived his entire life in Baltimore. He was married for 38 years to the love of his life. He cherished his two amazing children and was blessed with four beautiful grandsons.
To say Tom was a devoted husband and loving father would be an understatement. He absolutely “adored” his family! His family and friends were his world. Tom truly enjoyed life, loved people, and always had a positive outlook on life. He was a fan of all sports. He especially enjoyed umpiring at Ripken Stadium and playing in a co-ed softball league. He loved his many trips to the beach and going hunting at the cabin in West Virginia. Tom was the life of every party and always had a Miller High Life in his hand.
Tom led a life of service starting with three years in Vietnam then 30 plus years as a police officer in Baltimore City followed by nine years as a Baltimore City sheriff. He also worked many security part time jobs throughout his career.
Tom finally found peace after a courageous battle with Lou Gehrig’s Disease. He will be remembered for his welcoming, kind soul and his love for life, family, and friends.
Tom is the beloved husband of Gail Cernik (nee Elliott); loving father of Kelly Lonsdale and her husband Jonathan and Jeff Cernik and his wife MaryClare; adoring Pop-Pop to Brady, Jack, Luke and Ben; cherished brother-in-law of Tommy Elliott, Sandy and Tom Grem and Donna and Bruce MacKay; dear brother of Sandra Prushansky and Dale Cernik.
