Sarah M. Gillespie passed away peacefully on October 18, 2024. She was born in Scranton, PA. and was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Sarah’s life was about dedication to her husband Jack, in which they lovingly raised six children. She was full of love and faith in our God, and on a daily basis, she prayed and said the rosary. Sarah enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, such as indulging in chocolate eclairs and cherry vanilla ice cream, as well as spending quality time with her family. Sarah loved family gatherings, holidays and cherished her travels to Florida during the cold winter months, where she often walked on the beach with her beloved dogs. In her younger years, she had a green thumb and enjoyed tending to her garden.
Sarah is survived by her loving children; Paul J. Gillespie and his wife Yongcha; John P. Gillespie Jr. and his wife Debra; Susan (Gillespie) Shuman and Stephen Wajer; Michael P. Gillespie and his wife Margaret. She was also a cherished mother-in-law to John Payne, and the late George Muscalli.
Sarah was predeceased by her beloved husband, John (Jack) P. Gillespie Sr. as well as two of her children, Sally A. Muscalli and Mary Margaret Payne. She was also predeceased by her dear siblings: Marjorie Gerrity, Gerard Needham, Robert Needham, and James Needham and grandson, Alexander.
Sarah’s legacy will live on through her cherished grandchildren: Sally Trent, Kathy Yesner & Sean Gillespie, Meghan, Kelly & Jack Gillespie, Samuel Shuman, the late Alexander Shuman, Terrence Shuman, and Elizabeth Lacey (Shuman) Kristo, Michael Muscalli, Mollie (Gillespie) Ryan, Michael, Matthew, and Mary Margaret Gillespie. She was also an adoring great-grandmother to Sally, Ryan, Teagan, Kelly, Mary Kathleen, and Holden.
Sarah will be deeply missed by her family and friends, as well as her furry companion, Ginger.
Sarah's life will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church, 101 Church Lane Cockeysville, MD 21030. The date and time will be announced.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated St. Joseph Church, 100 Church Lane, Cockeysville, MD 21030 on Friday, February 7, 2025 at 10:00am. Interment Private.
