Paul Gerald Lebert, Jr., 91, of Baltimore, Maryland passed away Monday, April 8, 2024. Born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania on November 12, 1932, he was the son of the late Paul G. and Eva (Gobbla) Lebert.
Paul, a man of dedication and passion, graduated from Pittston High School, Class of 1951. His journey led him to the United States Air Force, where he served until 1955. During his service, he completed Control Tower Operator training at Keesler Air Force Base, worked as an air traffic controller during the Korean War and at Andrews Air Force Base, and achieved the rank of Airman 1st Class. His commitment continued with a 29-year career with the FAA, starting in Parkersburg, West Virginia, then moving to Harbor Field in Baltimore, and finally, Baltimore/Washington International (BWI) Airport. Paul was honored on multiple occasions for his superior performance while assisting aircraft and was awarded Runner-Up Controller of the Year in 1964. His love for aviation, which began in his youth, led him to begin pilot lessons in 1958 and earn his flight instructor certificate in 1962. He holds aircraft Type Ratings in the BE-1900, CE-500, and the LR-JET. After he retired from the FAA, he flew as a Captain for several companies, including Crown/Mesa Airlines, a USAir Express operator.
Outside work, Paul could be seen shooting pool, driving his sports car, attending events at the local American Legion and VFW, working with the Civil Air Patrol, polka dancing with his wife, watching sports and westerns, woodworking, smoking a pipe (back in the day), enjoying sweets, spending time with his grandchildren, and helping others achieve their aviation dreams, including his son, Scott.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Florence (Kulis) of 51 years, his son P. Scott Lebert, Sr., his brother Frederick, and his sisters Helen Kondracki and Eleanor Lebert.
