Kathleen Regina Ramirez (née Chapline) passed away unexpectedly on Monday, September 5, 2022 at the age of 57. She is survived by her four children, Katie, David, Mandi, and Alison, and siblings, Richard and Nora. She was preceded by her mother, Mary Regina Chapline, her father, Edward Chapline, and her sister, Judy Chapline.
Kathy grew up in Baltimore County and lived a life that was sometimes beautiful, sometimes ordinary, and sometimes incredibly difficult. She found solace in nature, in getting up close and identifying regional plants and birds and bugs. She loved walking slow and barefoot, paying attention to the world, and taking joy in the tiny details. She liked learning new crafts and making gifts for friends and family. She cared deeply about social justice and loved listening and learning in an effort to imagine and build a better world. She never had much money and usually struggled to get by, but was always quick to recognize her own particular privilege and gave whatever she could to those who she felt needed it more. And she had a deep love for her kids and a strong relationship with God that, no doubt, helped get her this far.
Through it all, Kathy struggled with lifelong, often debilitating depression, and ultimately lost the battle. In lieu of flowers, we encourage you to make a donation in her honor to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and/or The Trevor Project (see links below) and to take this time to reach out to your loved ones and remind them how much they mean to you.
We’ll gather for a potluck to celebrate Kathy’s life on Sunday, October 9th at the Dogwood Pavilion in the Hammerman Area of Gunpowder Falls State Park, 7200 Graces Quarters Rd, Middle River, MD 21220 at 1:00pm. All are welcome. Please feel encouraged to bring along a dish or snack as well as favorite photos, mementos, and memories
