Dear Sandy, John, Stephanie and all your family, I just came across the memorial page for John. We were sorry when we learned of his passing. We knew him for years as a kind, friendly man and watched him soldier on through different illnesses with patient faith in God, always with a smile.  Our deepest condolences for your great loss.

John was such an amazing person, friend and man of God.  I will always cherish his friendship and memories.  The world lost a true and honest soul.  Enjoy Heaven, until we meet again my friend...

John was fierce in his love for his family, his sweet wife Sandy, and the Lord.  He was a loyal friend and uncompromising with the Word of God!  He loved his country, investing in people, and God.  
John once called my mom, Yelling at her, calling her Millie, and reminding her to take her meds.  At first, she was worried about some poor lady not getting her medicine. As the conversation progressed she figured out it was John teasing her -later we laughed.  We will miss him but soon we will be dancing and listening to his music collection in heaven.   John 16:22


I only get to see Papa John and Sandy a few times a year but we always had to be cautious of him taking his naps before dinner.  We never knew he slept totally naked until... oops! He was a very nice man and always told me how handsome my boys are. Rest in peace. 

Sandy, I did not know John that well, but I will always remember the time we all went to lunch together in Annapolis.  He truly was a kind and thoughtful man, and loved the Lord.  I am so sorry for your loss, and want to let you know that I will always be here for you if you need to talk.  I am so glad that you were able to be with him in the end.  May God Bless him  as he passes from this world, and keep you in his arms during this difficult time.  

We send our love and sympathies to Sandra, Adam and John and their families; we are praying for you. We (Carrie and Allen) were on the same Bible club team with John for years, and got to see his love for God and how effective he was in relating to people where they are at. John was able to disarm people's defenses through humor and warmth; he thought outside the box and was very unique and this made him very good at sharing Christ with others. He had a great, quirky sense of humor. This picture was taken at a BBQ a few of us were at; he was teasing me about the way I had cooked the meat; that it "looked as if it had been dragged behind a car." Too funny! John was always up for doing fun things, and he always took time to sit and talk. He made you feel as if he had all the time in the world (an amazing quality). Even though we haven't seen him for years, we will miss him. Anyone who knew him is truly blessed; as we are! 

See you in heaven, good dear friend.  Thanks for being so out-of-the-box real, connecting with people with God's heart & Godly fun, and for enjoying people SO much and genuinely!  What an important difference you have made in countless hearts that way.   I pray that having known you helps us all become more like you  :-)   I will miss you.  I'm grateful that I've been able to enjoy your friendship all these years, with your spunky humor and passion for life, friends/family and God's heart for everyone.   Thanks, John Pa. The first memory I have of my precious friend was going for a walk with him when I was around 10 years old. As we walked, he discovered a dead bat and proceeded to tell me about the anatomy of this dead creature. I was grossed out by the bat but intrude by the guy and a friendship began! We watched each other grow in the grace and knowledge of our loving Savior. He always seemed to know what to say in such a gentle way to point me to Jesus. Through the years our paths brought us miles apart but our bond of friendship always brought a smile to my face. Big John will always hold a special place in my heart. Can’t wait to laugh with him again in Heaven someday. He was loved and will be greatly missed. My love and prayers go out to all his family.  Attaching a photo that I have had in my office since Bible college and still do to this day.  To me, it illustrates his wonderful personality perfectly and has made me smile through the years. 

The more I hurt the more he loved!! Never ever never Judged me and always had a smile. The absolute perfect example of a Christian and what a role model he was in this life.  We all lost a friend when God took him home.

So, my dad served,  my brothers served and my son - his grandson Travis will be commissioned as an officer in the United States Army on 9 December.  

So many see that red VW MICRO BUS....and those strange poses of skinny people. If you look very closely,  you can see a small lip protruding from the front. We had many adventures with that bus. My brother John and I carried the engine into an apartment....as our Dad decided to overhaul it ....in the apartment. People down below were not digging on the leaking Kerosene into their ceiling......But, I digress: back to to lip on the bus. Exiting off a road....he ran into a big snow bank. Pushed the convex front in and created a small scoop for air to travel through....IN MASSACHUSETTS....IN THE WINTER. His solution? Why, what's better than Owen Corning Insulation packed into the newly created crevice by the large snow pile. Alas, owens let us all.down....it didn't really alter the cold inside. The freezing air still managed to  get inside. Well....how do we warm the interior where owens was not living up to his idea..... His answer: Kerosene heater...in the middle vw bus 🚌 🙃 ....in the middle of winter...driving down the road with a Kerosene heater to try and heat the inside of this bus warm. How happy John and I were with the Gran torino...it had Heat. Btw,....we used a come-along with bolts attached to a tree to pull out the front nose.....

But I think this point personifies my dad; always an out of the box thinker, the zany, not always safe ideas....but zany things John and I experienced in that bus growing up....captures what it was like with him being our dad.
