Dr. Schauble was born and raised in Erie, Pennsylvania January 3, 1927, to Frank
T. Schauble and Dorothy Elliott (Goodman) Schauble. He enlisted in the Navy immediately after graduating from Strong Vincent High School in Erie. He then attended the Johns Hopkins University and the Johns Hopkins Medical School. He was fully trained in Surgery and Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at Duke University and became boarded in each. He went into private practice of surgery in Erie, Pennsylvania. Due to medical reasons, he left surgery and trained in Anesthesiology and Cardiac Anesthesiology at the Massachusetts General Hospital. He also was boarded in Anesthesiology. He taught and practiced at the University of California San Diego, and at the Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in the City of New York before becoming full time Director of Anesthesia at Cedars of Lebanon Hospital in Los Angeles. He oversaw the merging of the Cedars of Lebanon and Mount Sinai Hospitals to Cedars Sinai Hospital.
Dr. Schauble returned to teaching and research at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in 1978, where he was Director of Cardiac Anesthesia for many years. While at Hopkins, he was Chairman of Risk Management Committee for 17 years and was very active in Quality Assurance. He is the author of many scientific papers, and redesigned the Swan Ganz Pulmonary Artery Catheter so that reliable cardiac outputs could be easily obtained in sick patients.
Dr. Schauble was the devoted husband of Paula L. Schauble, M.D. for 47 years; father of Jennifer Lloyd (Mark), Paul D.H Schauble (Abby), Cheryl Winter, Suzanne Silvir, Deborah Sand (Florin), Michelle McKee (Harry) and Robert Schauble (Hong), and the late James T. Schauble; Grandfather of Katharyn Van der Veen (Jon), Markandeya Gohil, Surena Gohil, Solera Vandenberg (Alex), Zachary Sand (Max), Maya Lloyd, Otto Schauble, William James Schauble and Benjamin Schauble; Great grandfather of Jack Van der Veen and Henry Van der Veen. Dr. Schauble was predeceased by a sister Dorothy (Gay) Barnum.
A memorial service will be celebrated at Church of the Good Shepherd. 1401 Carrolton Ave., Towson, MD 21204 on Friday, December 30, 2022 at 3pm.
