Grady was born in Weogufka, Alabama, son of the late Grady and Grace Prater. He was a graduate of Auburn University. He was an Air Force veteran, serving in the Korean war. He was a retired teacher, who taught at Towsontowne Junior High and Loch Raven Senior, serving as Science Department Chairman. He taught in the Baltimore County school system for over 30 years.
Grady loved golfing with his sons and his friends at Fox Hollow, fishing at Loch Raven, rooting on the Orioles and Ravens, coaching sports and watching his grandchildren's sports and activities.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Pat Prater ( Dee), three sons, Bob and his wife Bonnie, Jeff and his wife Jeanne, Mark and his wife Robin, six grandchildren, Matt, Brooke, John, Brian, Amanda and Andrew Prater, and two step grandchildren, Chris Miles and Patrick Porter. He is also survived by his sister in law, Barbara Dee of Timonium and his sister Betty Lou Culver of Sylacauga, Al, as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the Lemmon Funeral Home of Dulaney Valley, Inc., 10 W. Padonia Road (at York Road) Timonium, Maryland 21093 on Thursday from 2 to 4PM and 7 to 9PM.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church, 101 Church Lane, Cockeysville, MD 21030 on Friday, December 4, 2015 at 10AM. Interment Private.
