Frederick Linwood Boone, 77
Scout Master/Eagle Scout, Veteran, Pension Fund Analyst,
Past Master - Mt. Moriah Lodge
June 9, 1932 – May 12, 2010
Frederick Linwood Boone, devoted husband and father passed away Wednesday, May 12th after a long illness. Born in Baltimore City, the firstborn son of Ernest Linwood and Alethea Boone (nee Rueckert), he grew up on Abbotston Street. He was an active member of Third Lutheran Church, and Boy Scout Troop 77, earning the distinguishing Eagle Scout Award, and later serving as Scoutmaster. He graduated in City College’s A Class, where he also played on the football team. He played trumpet and marched with the Baltimore Drum & Bugle Corps. He served in the United States Army, and was honorably discharged. He married his next door neighbor and childhood sweetheart . The couple resided in the Parkville area, and adopted two daughters.
Mr. Boone had an extensive career in the printing and computer information systems industries. He was employed for more than 25 years with Waverly Press / Williams & Wilkins in Baltimore City as a printing press operator, computer programmer, and Data Processing Department Manager. He was also employed with Plumbers & Pipefitters National Pension Fund, as the firms’ Senior Programmer Analyst, a position he held until his retirement at the age of 70-1/2.
Mr. Boone was an accomplished pianist, avid model train enthusiast & collector, and Civil War history buff. He enjoyed travelling and spending time with his family.
He was active in St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church on Taylor Avenue in Parkville, serving as Church Council Member & President, Men’s Group & Choir member, and substitute organist.
Actively involved in Masonic affairs, he served as Past Master of Mt. Moriah Lodge in 1998.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, the former Joan Kampes, two daughters, Lisa Bockholt and her husband Jerry of Kingsville, TX, and Kathleen Boone of Nottingham, Md, two grandsons, Justin and Matthew Oldewurtel, and numerous relatives and friends. Services will be (or were) held on Monday, May 17th at the Chapel on the grounds of Bonnie Blink, Maryland Masonic Home, in Hunt Valley.
