On April 5, 2023, Alice Marie Aiken (nee Schiavone) passed away in Wilmington, North Carolina, beloved wife of the late Edward G. Aiken, Jr.; devoted mother of Barbara D. Aiken, Edward G. Aiken and his wife Linda Aiken, Steven M. Aiken and his wife Lisa Aiken, Carol L. Aiken (Mark Myers), Cynthia Aiken Joslin and her husband Dale Joslin; loving grandmother of Edward G. Aiken, IV and his wife Roselyne Aiken and Megan Aiken; dear sister of the late Margaret Schiavone Hill, Michael C. Schiavone, John D. Schiavone, Dorothy Schiavone Fullerton. Alice is preceded in death by her parents Michael J. and Ellen (Ryan) Schiavone.
She was also blessed with 17 nieces and nephews and enjoyed a long companionship with Bernard (Bernie) Christina of Wilmington, Delaware.
Alice graduated from Towson Catholic High School in 1946 and worked as a secretary in Baltimore before meeting her husband and starting a family. She married the late Edward G. Aiken, Jr. in 1954, and they raised 5 children together living in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey before settling in Newark, Delaware. She recently moved to Wilmington, North Carolina to live with her daughters.
Alice loved singing, dancing, watching sports, going to concerts, the theatre and celebrating events and holidays with family. After raising her children, she enjoyed reading and traveling, taking cruises, and going to the racetrack with friends. She was very social and enjoyed meeting new people. She especially loved vacationing with family in Florida and on Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at Lemmon Funeral Home of Dulaney Valley Inc. 10 W. Padonia Road, on Friday April 21st from 10- 12 noon, where a funeral service will begin at 12 noon. Interment to follow at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens.
Alice generously donated to multiple charities but was especially concerned with protecting the earth. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sierra Club Foundation.
