Shirley Hauge passed away peacefully on October 8, 2024. Eleven and a half years after having a double lung transplant, the medications that kept her from rejecting her new lungs took their toll on other organs.
A lover of every animal and person she ever met, Shirley was renowned for her hospitality. She hosted an annual Christmas party and nearly everyone she met was invited to attend. She opened her home to young people needing a safe space – be they relatives, friends of her kids or international students studying in Oregon.
She loved her animals and when visiting friends with pets – could always be found with furry friends nearby.
In her younger years, she was an avid horse rider and won many jumping events on her pony Mr. X.
She is survived by her husband, Greg Harris; daughter Jessica Gregg; step children Chloe and Taylor Harris; bonus daughters Sawanya Patipatvasin and Tianyu Pan; siblings Betsy Hauge, David Hauge, Joe Hauge, Tom Hauge, Peter Hauge and Kristina Rice; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life is planning for Sunday, October 27 at the Hillsboro Elks Lodge from noon to 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Oregon Humane Society.
