Rose Marie Babbitt

Many things can be said about Rose Marie Babbitt. Known to friends and acquaintances as a friendly, energetic, empathic and decisive woman, her compassionate nature would always shine through, revealing her charm, warmth and conscientious demeanor. She was warmhearted, gentle and organized in all the things she sought to accomplish. Rose was a mentor, a natural “teacher” capable of seeing things clearly, leading others and bringing out the best in all of those around her. She generally had a focus on harmony and peace.

Rose was born on March 17, 1956 at McMinville Hospital in McMinville, Oregon. Her parents were Mother Arla May Rowland-Scott-Miller, Step-Father Jerry D. Miller Birth Father William Scott. When she was young, Rose's friends and family found that “straightforward” and “honest” were perfect words to describe her. Even as a child, Rose demonstrated strong qualities of self-confidence, perceptive ability and a disposition that was enjoyable to those around her.

Rose grew up with two siblings. She had one brother, Michael Duane Scott and one sister, Kathy Jo Dempster. Rose was constantly involved in all sorts of activities with her family. She was even-tempered, taking care not to get involved in too many family conflicts. This quality served her well, in perpetually bringing harmony, understanding and a sense of peace to the family. Rose carried these traits into her adult life and served as one of many reasons why family and friends found her pleasurable and delightful to be around. Rose was a person who genuinely understood and cared for others, making powerful connections with those she knew.

During her high school years, Rose had a natural flair for cheering on and applauding just about everyone. She was constantly offering her support and encouragement to fellow members of the groups and activities in which she participated. She graduated from Newberg High School in 1974. She did well in school and genuinely enjoyed telling stories in a way that drew people to her. In this way, Rose had a talent for becoming the center of attention, a kind of social catalyst. Rose was often found to be the lead person facilitating a group activity, frequently filling the role of being “the life of the party.” Teachers and classmates knew Rose as an excellent listener. She placed a high value on learning and always understood that there was a new lesson to be grasped waiting for her just around the corner.

Compassionate and devoted, Rose worked hard to make her new family happy. By trusting her emotions, Rose did her best to make sure that both the marriage and home life ran smoothly. This is just one more example of how Rose was truly a person of empathy.

Rose’s quality of being a caring and tolerant person who was very accepting of others translated to being a good mother to her children. Rose shared these values with her two sons and two step-daughters, two sons, Jason Nathaniel Faber and Benjamin Jacob Faber, and two step-daughters Kathryn Suzanne Wyland and Carolyn Ann Garber. Rose related well to children of all ages and was able to connect to them on their level. The children always loved her and she was completely and totally devoted to them.

Rose experienced success in her work life over and over again. Rose first was a mother and a homemaker. After a crisis in her life she found the courage to pick up the pieces and make a living for her children and herself. After spending many years as a housewife, she found employment and continued to do a remarkable job raising her sons. Rose always kept a wonderful home with a loving and peaceful atmosphere while exceeding at being an exceptional mother, wife, grand daughter, daughter, step-daughter, sister and aunt. This list could go on and on. She worked with Jerry Darm from 1994 -2001 and then joined Pacific Sports Turf where she worked until her passing. In her life and career she has touched more people than any one person could know. Rose always made the effort to understand what was needed at work, and was well known by her colleagues as a team player. Rose took pride in managing her professional responsibilities and seemed to always know what was necessary to successfully complete a project. Rose was one to take the initiative and her skills at working cooperatively were highly valued. Rose continually sought to learn what her co-workers did well and how they were most effective, a talent that enabled her to help them develop their own potential.

Because she was organized and methodical, Rose took great pleasure in her various hobbies. Rose had many hobbies that were really the love of her life. Rose was known to be an excellent cook and reveled in sharing her food with others. To her, food was love and she sure did love everyone a lot with her tasty and beautifully prepared food. She also loved giving gifts. Every gift was important to her and she always gave great thought and was not satisfied until she found the perfect gift for the recipient. These gifts are cherished by her loved ones to this very day and will always be a big part of her memory. Others loves in her life were crossword puzzles, any word game, visiting the beach, playing the slots and watching crime shows. Rose enjoyed sharing her passions with others and could singularly focus on one hobby at a time.

Rose was well known to others for her ability to naturally and conscientiously move into action to help others, a quality that placed her as an active contributor to many community activities. Charismatic by nature, she was always viewed by others as someone who built bridges, connected to people, and upheld her personal values. Rose felt like the world was her community. She was known as "The Caretaker of The World". When needed, she was there to generously help everyone, friends and family alike. She often set aside her own needs and desires and gave others her priority. Rose also took care of all god's creatures. She was often teased that she should just go ahead and start her own business called"Loving Pet Patrol". She welcomed many animals into her home to pet sit, and made many house calls to care for home bound pets.

Rose passed away on June 5, 2012 at her residence. Rose died of natural causes. She is survived by her spouse Donald, her mother and stepfather Arla May and Jerry Miller, her birth Father William Scott, her sons, Jason and Benjamin, her step-daughters Kathryn and Caroline, her Brother Michael, her sister Kathy, her Nephew Jonathan Michael Dempster and her nieces, Bethany Yvonne Dempster, Grace Noelle Dempster and Anna McCauley Dempster. A Celebration of life will be held on Saturday June 16, 2012 at 11:00 AM in Young's Funeral Home in Tigard, Oregon. According to her wishes Rose will be cremated. Her final placement has yet to be determined.

Throughout her life, Rose was a gregarious and enthusiastic woman. She was generous in sharing her personal attributes, giving and helping those she knew and loved. She would often fill the role of coach, bringing out the best in everyone. She was imaginative, original, tender hearted and easy to get along with. Rose leaves behind her a legacy of life-long friendships and cherished memories. Everyone whose lives she touched will dearly remember Rose Marie Babbitt.
