Bob grew up in a simple time and had fond memories of his childhood. He enjoyed playing baseball with the kids in town, not having a phone, and knowing everyone in their community. He had a remarkable basketball career through high school and college. He was drafted by the NBA but because of another draft, the Army, he had to decline. After playing basketball in the Army, he completed college, and started his 39 year career at Weyerhaeuser. His job led him to drive from city to city around the country where he would often try to take in a baseball game. Later, he would become an avid Mariner’s fan, never missing a game and most often, with his wife Marilyn by his side cheering them on.
He was an Eagle Scout, veteran, husband, father and grandfather. He loved poetry and would often quote poems from memory. He loved a good pun and “Dad Jokes” before they were called “Dad Jokes”. Soft spoken and kind, people referred to him as a gentle giant. An accurate description as he was big in stature and big in heart.
Bob is survived by his sons, Todd Wheeler, John Wheeler, and David Wheeler; grandsons Quentin Wheeler, Kaden Wheeler; and granddaughter Parker Wheeler. He was preceded in death by; wife of 61 years, Marilyn Wheeler.
