He was born in Pipestone, Minnesota on September 27th, 1953. He graduated from Washington High School in Fremont California and received his Bachelor’s degree from San Francisco State University. He was a scholar and accomplished athlete, excelling in the shot put, javelin and water polo.
After several successful decades in the mortgage industry, Rick followed his passion and opened the beloved World Class Wines in Lake Oswego in 2009. He engaged with his community by sharing his knowledge and appreciation for fine wine – and always with a kind smile. In addition to collecting wine, Rick loved travelling the world, fabulous food, good music, playing golf, Bay Area sports teams and growing his famed tomatoes. He was a much loved family man that eagerly shared his passions and taught others about the finer things in life.
Rick is survived by his wife, Susan Olson Baldwin; his 4 children, Eric Baldwin and wife Jamie, Suzanne Oliver and husband Reid, Gayle Singleton and husband Dustin, and Kevin Donahue and wife Claire; his 3 step-children, Thomas Stavnes, Colin Stavnes and Sophia Stavnes; his 8 grandchildren, Nick, Case, Sean and Thomas Buda, Lenox Oliver, Viktor and Nadia Stavnes and Otto Stavnes; his loving parents Fred and Shirley Baldwin; his brothers, Scott Baldwin and his wife Rae, Mike Baldwin and his wife Krissy; his niece Madison and two nephews, Clay and Ben.
A Celebration of Life, open to all, will be held from 3-6pm on July 18th at the Oregon Golf Club, 25700 SW Pete’s Mountain Road, West Linn OR 97068.
