They moved to Sauvie Island, Oregon, and lived on a small farm. Neal loved raising and showing cows at the state fair. His favorite award winning cow, Black Jewel, won him Future Farmer of the Year recognition.
Neal graduated from Scappoose High School in 1965, and graduated from Linfield College in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science in Business. He later enlisted in the United States Army and served in the 25th Infantry from 1970-1972. Neal was based in Schofield, Hawaii and received an Honorable Discharge.
Neal married Charlotte Colistro on August 19, 1978. Charlotte and Neal later welcomed their little daughter, Marisa, on August 1, 1982. He worked as an Oregon Real Estate Broker for over 30 years, most recently for More Realty in Tigard, Oregon.
Neal loved helping others, and spent many years dedicated to community service.
He joined Rotary in 1974, and was a Rotary Club member for 48 years. He was president of at least 7 clubs, all in district 5100. Most recently, he belonged to the Sherwood Rotary Club. He helped start over 20 Rotary clubs and recruited almost 50 members over 48 years.
Neal earned many awards for his contributions to the community. Awards included Paul Harris Fellow Award and The Rotary Foundation District Award for outstanding service in promoting The Rotary Foundation and its goal of world understanding and peace.
Neal was a member of the Royal Rosarians. The Royal Rosarians promote Portland through the Portland Rose Festival, other festivals, and service projects. Neal was active with the YMCA in Sherwood and was a part of their Board of Directors. He was instrumental in the planning of a new Tigard park.
Neal is survived by his wife Charlotte, daughter Marisa Erven, her husband Blake Erven, brothers Ed and Alan Brown, his mother Betty Brown, and several nieces and nephews. Neal will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.
The celebration of life will be held at Ainsworth House and Gardens, 19130 Lot Whitcomb Dr., Oregon City, OR 97045 on July 10th, 2022 at 10:30 AM. If planning to attend, please carpool as parking is limited.
