Ken Scheckla died October 31st in Tigard, Oregon. He was 84. Ken was born November 17, 1932, and was a member of a pioneer Tigard family. Ken graduated from Tigard High School in 1951, and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, stationed in Heidelberg, Germany. After that, Ken spent his entire life in the Tigard area.
Ken married Bibianne Peltier, his wife of 51 years, on August 4, 1966 in Stevenson, Washington. He worked as a lithographer for Graphics Arts Center for 35 years, retiring in 1994. Ken was a pillar of the Tigard community, serving on the Tigard City Council as a councilman for 17 years, and another year as the mayor. He also served on many city- and county-wide boards, always seeking ways to make the community better. He was a member of numerous volunteer organizations, and was recognized for generously donating his time to the Knights of Columbus, where he was a charter member since 1953, St. Vincent De Paul at St. Anthony’s Church, American Legion Post 158, Metropolitan Area Communications Commission, Sherwood Elks, Tualatin Valley Community Board, and received several awards from the City of Tigard. He had a passion for helping others, spending time with his family, visiting with friends, playing cards, and he also loved watching sports, especially following Tigard High’s high school football teams over the years.
He is survived by his wife, Bibianne, his son, Wade Scheckla, stepsons Kevin Clark and Larry Clark, stepdaughter Kay Ann Nutt, 11 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and an enormous number of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lucy and Frank Scheckla, brothers Leonard Scheckla and Mike Scheckla, and sister Donna Stovall.
A Rosary will be held at St. Anthony’s Church in Tigard Friday, November 10th, at 7 PM. Funeral service will be held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church November 11th at 11 AM. Burial will immediately follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Tigard, followed by a celebration of Ken’s life back at St. Anthony’s church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Vincent De Paul at St. Anthony’s Church. The address to send donations is 9905 S.W. McKenzie St., Tigard Oregon 97223.
