Katherine P. Larson

Katherine Priscilla Larson passed away on October 26, 2010 in Salem, Oregon. Katherine was born April 4, 1922 in Sherwood, Oregon to Alexander and Avis Winefred Boss and was the eighth of nine children. She attended school in Sherwood and Newberg and graduated from Newberg High Union School on June 6, 1940. On September 10, 1943 she married Stanley B. Larson and they were married for 54 years.

Katherine loved to travel and she and Stan enjoyed Hawaii as a favorite destination. She also enjoyed a rare opportunity to travel to Russia. They also enjoyed a memorable trip to Alaska in a camper with their dogs and cat. The two of them traveled to Arizona frequently in the winter months taking on the trappings of the snowbird clan. They were rock hounds and enjoyed exploring the fossil beds in Oregon.

In the early family years, Katherine and Stan built a summer cabin on USFS lands on Still Creek in the Mt. Hood National Forest. The cabin provided many formative activities for three young boys.

Katherine was a great cook and she lived somewhat simply with an undying love for gardening, flowers, and working outside. She also had an enduring love of animals. She and Stan had a wonderful time with a square dancing with friends during their time in Portland.

Family was very important to Katherine. She took great pride in her children, grandchildren and their achievements. Katherine felt her most valuable accomplishment was having three wonderful sons.

Katherine is survived by three sons, John (wife Gwynne) of Salem, Oregon, Donald (wife Gloria) of Newberg, Oregon, and Douglas (wife Michelle) of Redmond, Oregon. Katherine's surviving family also includes six grand children and three great grand children. Katherine was preceded in death by her husband Stanley and all eight of her siblings. Funeral services for Katherine will be held at Young's Funeral Home at 11831 SW Pacific Highway, Tigard, Oregon on Tuesday November 2, 2010 at 11:00AM followed by a private internment. A reception will follow the funeral service at Godfather's Pizza in Sherwood at 1:00PM.
