Born in Sausalito, California Judy was a true California girl enjoying the sun, beach, being active, avocados, and the bay area, with a special connection to San Francisco. She started a tenured career with State Farm Insurance in Northern, CA which spanned 38 years and followed her to Oregon. She was married 52 years and the proud mother to a son and a daughter, and the extremely proud grandmother to a grandson.
Judy was born and raised in Sausalito, CA. Her family relocated to Castro Valley, CA her junior year of high school. Judy moved to San Jose, CA in 1961. She married Fredric Jarvis Berry in 1968. They lived in Lake Tahoe, CA and Rohnert Park, CA, before moving back to San Jose, CA until 1978 when she and her husband relocated their family to Tigard, OR.
Judy had a servant heart and adopted countless cats and dogs from 1977 through 2015. She volunteered for Cat Adoption Team in Portland, OR for years. Additionally, she volunteered with check ins and gym duties at her beloved jazzercise location in Beaverton, OR for nearly 30 years. Judy and her husband had foreign exchange students beginning in 1983 through 2020 and hosted young men from around the globe, many of whom became like family members and kept contact over the years. In 2020 Judy had the opportunity to spend 2 weeks in Germany, Italy, Greece, and surrounding areas visiting a handful of former exchange students and their families.
Judy’s hobbies included bowling leagues, co-ed softball, downhill and cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, camping, and waterskiing. She also parasailed and zip lined during her annual wedding anniversary trips to Puerto Vallarta Mexico for 26 years. Additionally, she was a phenomenal cook and baker, in addition to keeping a spotless home. Judy loved to entertain and had an open door to friends, family, and near strangers. For many years in the 1980’s to 1990’s she had a monthly game night with 3-5 couples whereby she made hor d’oeuvres, they ate dinner, and then played board games will into the evenings.
Judy is survived by her son Bruce Scott Berry (Kathi), daughter Audra Jeanette (Berry) Moore, and grandson Nathan Scott Moore. As well as her oldest brother Rhody Henry Malone (Karen), sister-in-law Cynthia Ann (Elliott) Malone, and brother-in-law Donald Wayne Berry (Mary). Judy is also survived by 7 nephews, and 2 nieces. Judy was predeceased by her father, Alfred Rhody Malone, her mother Beverly Ann (Strauss) Malone, younger brother Donald Scott Malone, and her husband Fredric Jarvis Berry.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation be made to either: The Oregon Humane Society, Northern California Weimaraner Rescue, Cat Adoption Team, or American Cancer Society in her name & memory.
