Jeanette's beginnings were very humble; she lived in a house with no running water or electricity. She had her first job at the age of 9 running errands for the general store. In the summer of 1943, the family moved to Portland, Oregon and they lived in University housing for the war. Jeanette continued working during her school years taking on ironing to make money. She eventually got a job at the Crest Theater with her best friend Sonia Cason Trebelhorn. After high school, she went to work for the glue factory where she met her husband Bill Gibbs.
Jeanette supported her husband through college, and then their first child Randy was born in 1955. He was followed by a son Robert who passed away in 1959. Next came Nancy born in 1962, and with time Jeanette's family grew to include her daughter-in-law Kathy LaBerge Gibbs, grandchildren Billy and wife Waverly Peterson Gibbs, Erin Gibbs; Son-in-law Rich Sotta, and granddaughter Michelle Sotta.
Jeanette was a very giving person, she was always the room mother and Bluebird leader, and she served on the Alter Society, Albertina Kerr Center Board and was an Assistance League officer and member.
Jeanette was an intelligent, hard-working, loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and friend who will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.
