“Be a better leader, make a bigger difference”
Dr. Jack Clinton of Tigard, Oregon, and Dean Emeritus of OHSU School of Dentistry passed away January 3, 2022. He was 82.
Clinton was born in Lakeview Oregon, the oldest child of Jack Sr. and Lorina Clinton. He grew up in a working-class family and became proficient in electrical, plumbing, and handyman skills. In 7th grade he made the decision to pursue dentistry as a profession and during his sophomore year of high school he began dating Mary. In 1961 they married, created a loving family, and lived a happy and full life together until his passing.
After graduating from OHSU Dental School, he became an instructor and held numerous positions, including appointment to Dean of the School. He was instrumental in fundraising, creating, designing, and transitioning the dental school to its current location at the Portland South Waterfront.
Clinton had an extraordinary ability to balance home and work and was a dedicated family man, promotor of education, and dentistry. He was a dynamic and decisive leader, compassionate instructor, mentor, and friend to many. He was humble and enjoyed interacting with all people.
Clinton’s leadership and service were highly regarded within the dental community and beyond. Most notably he spent his time volunteering at church and on the Tigard-Tualatin School Board.
Memorial Mass and reception will be held at St. Anthony Church 9905 SW McKenzie St. Tigard on February 18, at 4:30pm.
Every day is a gift. Live.
