It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of Hoa Tran Lam, 75. After a long and courageous battle with renal disease, she passed away at home on July 9, 2023. She was surrounded by loved ones in her remaining time with us. She had an unwavering will to endure and survive the many trials she faced in the past 27 years. Hoa constantly fought, with grit and determination, to be there for her family regardless of the challenges. She was a selfless and devoted mother, grandmother, and loving wife to her husband of almost 50 years.
Hoa would speak fondly of her youth in Vietnam where she would balance time between her family and friends, much as she did for all her life. She fled Vietnam with her young family in 1978 and settled in the United States after a two-year detour in a Malaysian refugee camp. Hoa had an incredible mind with an innate mechanical ability that would make us wonder if she could have been an engineer in another life. Hoa showed her love through food and would always ensure her grandchildren left with full bellies. She had a passion for cooking and enjoyed seeking out new and delicious foods. Her family had the privilege and fortune to enjoy the fruits of Hoa’s amazing culinary skills as she would love to cook amazing dishes and feasts for her family. Hoa had an uncanny green thumb. She could take dying plants from our homes and have them flourish weeks later. Hoa would also love to spend quality time with her kids, grandkids and extended family. She had a free spirit that longed for adventure and travel, which meant surprising her kids with day trips to the Oregon Coast or summer vacations to see extended family. Hoa had a wonderful sense of humor that was combined with immeasurable wisdom. We will forever miss her wit, laughter, sage advice, and love of her family.
Hoa was happiest surrounded by her family and friends. She truly enriched the lives of her family and has created a legacy with her children and grandchildren who will go far even if they only inherit a fraction of Hoa’s strength and determination. We have been blessed to be part of her life as she is an indelible part of ours.
Her memory will be forever cherished by husband Binh. Son Nguyen (Kristina) and granddaughter Savannah. Son Luke (Truc) and granddaughters Sophie and Ruby. Daughter Linh (Lawrence) and granddaughters Kira, Leah and Ellie. Daughter Lisa (Robert), grandson Maxwell and granddaughter Alexis. She will be greatly missed by countless family members from Canada and Vietnam. A special thanks and gratitude goes to Binh for the love, care and attention he devoted to Hoa, particularly through her difficult journey with renal disease.
