Donald “Don” Deloss Stewart was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1930 in Salem, Oregon to Riley Stewart and Dorothy Both. Dorothy was seventeen at the time of his birth, and the light of his life. They were very close and grew up together in many ways. Louise recalls that Dorothy was an angel and the sweetest woman to her and all who met her. Don’s mother, Dorothy, was Dutch and his father, Riley, was Scottish, helping lead to many traditions and interests throughout Don’s life.
He was born and raised on his Aunt Ethel and Uncle Bill’s Caruther’s farm in Salem. After Don’s father went to Alaska, he was raised by his mother and his Uncle Tunis Both. It was Uncle Tunis that taught Don what it was to be a gentleman and to live his life by example.
Don met his loving wife, Louise Stewart in 1979. Just four months after they met, Don and Louise were married on November 24, 1979 in Beaverton, Oregon. He and Louise have shared together thirty-six years of wedded bliss and heaven.
Don lived a beautiful and full life, accomplishing many wonderful achievements. Don enjoyed a prestigious career as the Chief Plumbing Inspector for the City of Portland. At the age of 22, his skills and hard work were recognized and with much confidence, he was asked to work on the Cliff Dam at Detroit Lake. The Cliff Dam is still in use to this day. This experience led Don to fulfill his dream of having a cabin at Detroit Lake. Many fond memories were made there with family and friends. Throughout his life, he learned to fly and had a passion for Harley Motorcycles, of which he had many. After Don’s retirement he became very family focused. However, he spent his first two years of retirement building the band trailer for the Shrine Concert Band.
Don was proud to have been a 32nd Degree Mason. He was also a Scottish Rite Brother and played the trumpet in the Shrine Band.
Don is survived by his beloved sweetie, Louise Stewart; his brother, Brooks Keebey; his children, Jamie and Doug Hasskamp, Kelly Stewart, and Terri and Allen Huffman; Karen and Paul Mallory, Steven and Karin Hedgepeth, Bruce and Debbie Hedgepeth; and his many endearing grandchildren.
