Dennis M. Codd, known to his loved ones as Denny, passed away on October 12, 2023, in Portland, Oregon. He was a kind and generous man who loved to laugh and cherished his family and faith. Denny was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was born on April 26, 1940, in Spokane, Washington, and grew up in Tillamook, Oregon, where he attended Sacred Heart School.
Denny pursued his education at Gonzaga University, earning a Bachelor's degree in English and later obtaining Masters Degrees in Theology, English, and Counseling. He had a passion for teaching and spent seven years as an English and religious studies teacher at Gonzaga Prep. From 1977 to 1989, Denny served as the chair of the Religious Education Department at Jesuit High School. Following his time in education, he worked as a consultant for various non-profit organizations from 1989 to 2009.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Denny made a positive impact on the lives of many as a football coach at Tillamook Catholic High School from 1967 to 1969. His dedication to his faith led him to worship at St. Clare Catholic Church, where he was also a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians.
Outside of his work and faith, Denny enjoyed playing golf in his spare time. He found joy in the sport and cherished the moments spent on the green. He was an enthusiastic sports fan, as he was his high school quarterback, coached football in his adulthood, and watched games on the TV. He was always rooting for the Oregon Ducks.
Denny is survived by his loving spouse, Joan Codd, his brother Joseph (Faith), brother-in-law Jim Rosenberry (Sheila), daughter Juli, granddaughter Michele Phillips (Jimmy), grandson Robert Wellock (Shelby), and his great-grandchildren Chevelle, James, Savanna, and Paisley. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Peggy Codd, and his sister Sheila Rosenberry (Jim).
A service to celebrate Denny's life will be held on November 8, 2023, at 11:00 AM at St. Clare Parish. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the St. Clare Parish Stained Glass Preservation Fund.
Denny will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His kindness, laughter, and love for his family will forever be cherished. May he rest in peace.
