Delma Delrae Dorrell, a beloved matriarch and pillar of her family, peacefully departed Virginia on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at the age of 90 where she spent the last five years. Surrounded by family and friends singing praise songs around her bedside, directly into the arms of Jesus. Her husband Donal Valgene passed in 2019 and son Donal Noel passed in 2023.
Throughout her rich and meaningful life, Delrae radiated warmth and love to all who knew her. As a devoted mother, she graciously shared her nurturing spirit with not only her own children but also with her grandkids and great grandkids, nieces and nephews, and countless others.
Delrae’s dedication to education shone brightly through her role as a beloved kindergarten teacher at Gaarde Christian School. Over the years, she touched the lives of countless young learners, imparting not only knowledge but also kindness and compassion. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of the more than 800 students who were fortunate to pass through her classroom.
In 1982, Delrae’s only daughter, Lynn moved to VA with her husband, David, and their first grandson, Dave. Together, they had three more kids, Serena, Devon, and Dillion. Distance proved no obstacle to Delrae’s boundless devotion, as she traversed 2,800 miles to be present for every milestone and celebration in her grandchildren's lives, ensuring that their summers were filled with cherished memories of camping adventures.
In her later years, Delrae found immense joy in the presence of her six great-grandchildren, Mason, Logan, Hudson, Ethan, Tucker, and Violet Rae and granddaughter-in-law Erica Eisele and grandson-in-law Michael Bowen. Delrae delighted in the great grands school programs, artwork, and family gatherings. A devout woman of faith, whether attending ladies luncheons, participating in Tuesday night Bible studies, or worshiping at Mt. Hope Church in Ashburn, Virginia. She was a faithful member of Tigard Assembly of God (Faith Journey) and later Portland Christian Center.
Delma Delrae Dorrell leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering faith that will continue to inspire and uplift all who were blessed to know her.
