Connie Jo Smith

She was born to Ralph and Virginia Bentz on June 20, 1949 in Spokane, WA. Connie graduated from Rogers High School in 1967 and received an Associates Degree from Spokane Falls Community College. She married Kirk Smith on August 22, 1970, in Spokane, but began their courtship when they were eleven years old. Together they raised their two sons while living in Washington, Montana and Oregon.

She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, daughter and friend. She enthusiastically supported both of her sons in their numerous school and sporting endeavors, participating in leadership roles of their youth sports leagues and school organizations. The joy she took from watching her sons carried over to her three grandchildren. She rarely ever missed a soccer match, basketball, baseball or softball game, gymnastics or motorsports exhibition. Her sweet personality led her to build long-lasting friendships wherever she lived and whatever she did. She worked as a human resources professional for most of her career, something that suited her attention to detail and thoughtfulness well. Her sweet, upbeat, thoughtful and caring spirit will be missed by so many.

Connie is survived by her husband of 48 years, Kirk Smith (Tigard, OR); two sons: Ryan (Jenna) Smith (Tigard, OR) and Craig (Sami) Smith (Beaverton, OR); her sister, Darlene Stanley (Renton, WA); three grandchildren: Trevor (17), Ashley (14), Mallorie (9); seven nephews and four nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Peggy Bentz, and her brother Don Bentz.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Meridian Park and Emanuel Hospitals in Portland, OR for the wonderful and compassionate care they gave Connie and her family.

A Funeral Mass for Connie will be held on Friday, December 28, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Tigard, OR, a reception will follow. A family interment will take place at St. Anthony Cemetery in Tigard.
