Charlotte Marie Johnson, age 92, of Tualatin, Oregon passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2023. Charlotte was born to Reuben and Ardis Olson on April 14th, 1930 in Spokane, WA. Charlotte spent most of her early life in Washington, attending Kitsap County High School. She traveled around the Pacific Northwest, and Alaska working on a military base near Fairbanks in the early 1950's, where she met her first husband, Edward Jacob Thoennes. In later years she was married to Richard Dingle Johnson.
Charlotte had a great group of friends who shared many adventures together. She enjoyed skiing, gardening and playing golf with them. She was a gifted artist, and used oil paints to create beautiful landscapes. Charlotte was also a "rockhound" and never left a beautiful rock behind during her adventures on the beach. She often took her children on her adventures to the beach to comb for agates and rigorous hikes through the mountains. There are many fond memories of those adventures, with full pockets and the achy legs that came with them!
Throughout her life, Charlotte tutored children's reading and taught Title One reading in the Tigard School District. She cared deeply for each child she taught. She enjoyed sharing her love of art and actively contributed her time to such community activities as serving on the Board of Directors of the Oregon Society of Artists, and volunteering at the Portland Art Museum as well as the Oregon Military Museum.
Charlotte will be remembered for her love of art and gardening, her extraordinary patience and kindness and the love she shared. She was a loving and proud grandmother and mother.
Charlotte is survived and dearly missed by her children Mike Thoennes, Janis Whitman, and Jeff Thoennes (Tracy); her Grandchildren Nicole Andrews, Chelsey Andrews, Adam Andrews, Philip Thoennes and Brandon Thoennes and their significant others; as well as her great grandchildren Ruari, Willa, Natalie and Jackson.
Charlotte is preceded in death by her first husband Edward J. Thoennes and second husband Richard D. Johnson, Jr.
