Anthony Freni died peacefully in his sleep on Nov. 14, 2010 in Tigard, OR. Known as Tony, he was born April 13, 1919 in Everett, MA, the second of five children to Basilio & Domenica Freni. After growing up in East Boston, he married his childhood friend Vincenza (Jennie) Ardito on June 6, 1943. They were first generation Sicilian-Americans who spoke both Italian & English. Following his service in WWII, Tony moved his family to sunny Southern California. There he raised 4 children while serving the community with the Knights of Columbus for many years. To Tony, family was most important. He & Jennie hosted many homemade feasts & holiday celebrations bringing the large extended family together. Being a Master Sergeant & senior army cook, Tony knew how to lay a table.

He was sure-handed & strong from cutting meat all his life. A jack-of-all trade, Tony could repair or build just about anything. When he retired in 1982, he followed his children to Oregon, where he & Jennie led an active social life, participating in bowling leagues & the Beaver square-dancing club.
Tony is survived by Jennie his wife of 67 years, his four children Joann Dilley, Jackie Freni-Rothschild, Anthony S. Freni, Thomas Freni; his 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces & nephews who considered him “grandpa”.
