Rita Castillo, of Denver, passed away on September 3, 2022. She was 90 years old. Rita was born to Juan and Contrada (Montoya) Castillo on June 11, 1932 in Anton Chico, New Mexico. Rita eventually came to Denver with Victor and Helen (Elena) Montano.
Rita enjoyed her faith; primarily, her love of God. Rita also like to travel. She even traveled Rome and Mexico to see the Pope. An accomplished fisherwoman, Rita enjoyed the outdoors. She frequently went camping on her own with her friends and family. Anyone who knew Rita knew her love of shopping. She often found many great deals at the "segunda."
Rita is survived by her brother, Adolpho "JR" (Barbara) Apodaca; sisters, Guadalupe (Lorenzo) Espinoza, Virginia (Carl) Coddington, Theresa (Leroy) Romero and Frances Favre; sons, Ernie Bennie (Teresita) Gutierrez, Victor Lee (Mary Theresa), Richard Gutierrez and Marshall (Pauline) Gutierrez; sister-in-law, Julia Castillo; ; six grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Rita was preceded in death by her brothers, Jose "Nash" Castillo, Estevan Castillo and Salvador Castillo; sister, Mary Rivera; sister-in-law, Rose Marie Castillo and brother-in-law, Tony Favre.
Visitation will be held 6pm, Thursday, September 8, 2022 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1209 W. 36th Avenue in Denver. Rosary Prayers will follow at 7pm, also at the church. A visitation will also be held 10am, Friday, September 9 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. A Funeral Mass will commence at 11am. Interment will take place at 1pm at Olinger Highland Cemetery, 10201 Grant Street in Thornton.
