Peggy Smith was born on March 6, 1950, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Karl and Betty Smith. Her family moved to Westminster, Colorado, when she was five. She was an exceptional student and graduated as valedictorian from Ranum High School. Peggy was awarded the prestigious Boettcher Scholarship to attend Colorado College, where she earned a degree in Mathematics with Magna Cum Laude honors. Peg would continue to sing with the Colorado College Travel Choir for many years.
Peggy devoted her career to teaching and positively impacting the lives of students. She taught at Bennett High School, Central Catholic High School and Thornton High School for over 40 years advocating for her students' success at all times. At Thornton, Peg coached the Knowledge Bowl Team, was the drama department's costumer extraordinaire, worked athletic games, tutored and taught in the IB Math program.
Peggy was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon and ordained elder. She sang in the Chapel and Chancel choirs, volunteered with the young adult program and tirelessly worked with the FISH food bank, always fighting for the underdog.
Peggy loved cats and had at least one as a furry companion most of her life. She enjoyed following the cat online forum, reaching out to other cat lovers.
Peggy is survived by her brother Doug and his wife, Jo, her nephew Scott and his wife, Jennifer, and her niece Kym Louras and her husband, Nick. She also leaves behind four grand nieces and nephews: Kaia, Julian, Henry, and Matilda.
Peggy will be greatly missed by everyone whose lives she touched. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the FISH Food Bank at Westminster Presbyterian Church in her memory.
