Nancy Casas-Diaz, aged 93, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2025 at Arbor View Assistant Living in Arvada, Colorado. She was born on November 12, 1931, in Manhattan, New York to Basilisa (Torres) and Nazario Casas. She grew up in Spanish Harlem and enjoyed telling stories of the colorful characters in her diverse neighborhood and her early work for General Electric soldering printed circuit boards.
Nancy married Edelmiro Diaz on November 20, 1948 in New York. She enjoyed her life as a military wife and the mother of four children. She was always ready to ‘pull up stakes’ and move to a new base. In 1974, her husband retired from the military, and the family settled in Thornton Colorado.
Nancy spoke English and Spanish fluently and began work In Thornton as a bilingual para-professional for the Mapleton School District. She won several awards for her work assisting Spanish speaking students.
Nancy was a faithful member of Trinity Christian Fellowship for over 40 years. She loved her community of faith and attended worship and Bible studies regularly, enjoying discussions related to her beliefs with her pastor and friends. She continued this discipline during her time at Arbor View.
Nancy claimed to have been descended from gypsies and was certainly always on the go. She proudly passed her written and driving exams at 90 and found it a great challenge to give up her car at 91.
Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, her son, Jim, her brother, Edward and her niece, Denise. She is survived by her children Scott Diaz, (Mary), Lynn Diaz McLeese, (Damon), Lysette Diaz, two sisters, Esther Casas-Clavell and Millie Latta, three granddaughters, five great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
