Brighton, Colorado passed away at her home in the early morning hours of January 6, 2024 after a 2-year
battle with ovarian cancer.
Millie was born in Jenerette, Louisiana to Maurice Anthony Moncla and Mildred Myers Moncla, she
graduated from Mount Carmel Academy in New Iberia, Louisiana. Millie married Richard in 1967 in New
Iberia and they moved to New Orleans the next year. In 1980 they moved the family to Colorado and
after raising her family, she worked as a graphic artist, author and editor for Sequoia Publishing in
Littleton, Colorado.
Always drawn to art, during her life she was a wood carver and a gifted artist working in oil, watercolor,
pastel and scratchboard. After moving to Brighton in 2005 she became a juried studio artist at Main
Street Creatives in Brighton. In addition to art, Millie loved nature, wildlife and enjoyed cooking,
camping, hiking and birdwatching.
Millie is survived by her husband Richard; children: Elizabeth (Chad Kinney), Christopher (Tonya Lacey
Young) and Stephanie (Erich TerAvest); grandchildren: Kailey and Kiersten Kinney, Mason and Lily Young,
Celeste TerAvest and brother Tom Moncla (Linda Decuir Moncla).
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Greenwood Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Boulder,
Colorado (greenwoodwildlife.org), an organization that has worked to save “thousands of wild animals
…... from hummingbirds to foxes” and Millie so loved her hummingbirds.
Millie’s family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the Rocky Mountain Cancer Center - Thornton,
Colorado and The Denver Hospice.
