Flora was born November 27, 1923 in Ocate, New Mexico. She was the seventh born child into a family of eleven, including eight brothers and three sisters. Early spring of 1929, her father, Bernardo Mascarenas and her mother, Adelaida Cruz moved their family to Fort Collins, Colorado in pursuit of better job opportunities for her father. At the young age of seven in 1931, Flora’s family moved to Brighton, Colorado. They stayed in Brighton for a short time until they moved to the San Luis Valley in 1936 for three years, only to return to Brighton, Colorado in 1939 where her family settled.
At the age of twenty-one, Flora married Cireo Zuniga on September 22, 1945 in Brighton, Colorado. Together, they had eight children;
Stella, David, Rebecca, Barbara, Naomi, Margaret, Cireo Jr., and Catherine.
Flora’s husband, Cireo Sr., passed away October 28, 1990 in Denver, Colorado.
Flora is survived by five daughters, thirteen grand children, twenty-one great grand children, and nineteen great-great grand children.
Flora was preceded in death by three of her children; Cireo Jr., David, and Margaret.
Maria “Flora” Zuniga passed away peacefully at her home located in Northglenn, Colorado on March 9, 2016.
Flora was a beloved and caring sister, mother, grandma, great grandma, and great-great grandma.
