Larry L Davis, beloved husband, father and Papa, passed away November 13,2024 in Broomfield, Colorado. Larry was born July 8, 1942 to the late William and Mildred (Thommanson) Davis in Cedartown, Georgia as the third of seven children.
Larry grew up in the southeast throughout Georgia, Mississippi and North Carolina. In 1959 Larry joined the Army and traveled the world. While serving in Germany, he met his future soulmate, Susan Young. They were married on July 24, 1962 in Basel, Switzerland. Larry deployed to Vietnam in 1967 and fought on the frontlines until May of 1969 when he was devastatingly injured in combat. He returned to the States after recovery as a highly decorated hero. Larry was the proud recipient of the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star with the "V" for valor, the Silver Conduct medal, and many more awards. He retired from the Army in 1979 with his last 8 years spent at the White House and Pentagon as a personal driver.
After his retirement from the Army, Larry moved to his wife's home state of Colorado and joined the Adams County Sheriff's office where he spent the next 30 years of his career finally retiring in 2009. During his tenure at the Sheriff's department, he rose to the rank of Patrol Sergeant, Detective Sergeant and finally Civil Sergeant. He also lead the County's DARE program with pride, and gave his time to Christmas Crusades to make sure no child went without for the holidays. Larry was well respected by his students, staff and community.
Larry is survived by his children William (Kristin Vollmer) Davis of Wimauma, FL and Judy Davis of Broomfield, CO. He is also survived by grandchildren Heather (Joseph), Michael (Ariana), Aidan, Amber (Tony) and Raena, Great-grandchildren Kasey, Keeley, Kolter, Hadley, Paisley, Atley and Averley, sister Beverly and brothers Marty, Joe, Jerry and many nieces, nephews and friends . Besides his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his loving wife Susan, and brothers Ronald and Doug.
Visitation will take place Tuesday, December 3, 2024 from 10:00AM with service beginning at 11:00AM at Olinger Highland Mortuary, 10201 Grant St, Thornton, CO 80229. A Funeral Procession will follow with military service at 1:30PM, Ft Logan National Cemetery, 4400 W Kenyon Ave, Denver, CO 80236.
