Joy Aline (Marzullo) Rose was born on September 11, 1945 in the Staten Island Naval Hospital to parents Vito Joseph Marzullo and Vera Alice (Edwards) Marzullo. Joy went home to the Lord on December 6, 2018. Joy was a loving wife to Glenn and a devoted mother to Kristopher.
Joy's early years were spent in Maryland with her parents and sister Rose and brothers Michael and Robert. Joy graduated from Montgomery Blair High School in 1963 and continued her education at Eastern Nazarene College (ENC) in Quincy Massachusetts. There she met her future husband, Glenn, and they were married August 28, 1965. Joy graduated in 1966 from ENC with an associate degree. Joy and Glenn remained in Massachusetts until 1968 when Glenn took a new job with IBM in their Arlington Virginia office.
Joy's interest and talents went far beyond the degree in secretarial skills as she took a correspondence school course from Famous Artists. Then, after they moved to Maryland, went to a Barbizon Modeling School. Her modeling was interrupted with the birth of Kristopher in October 1971. That however did not keep her from developing her talents in art as she took classes in tole painting, ceramics and other crafts that grew artistic skills.
Moving in 1975 to Jefferson City Missouri with Glenn's transfer, Joy returned to School and received a Bachelors Degree in Commercial Art from Lincoln University. Joy graduated with honors and was listed in Who's Who. Joy used her talents in creating advertising copy and doing retail store window design. Her desire to be available always as a mother limited her employment opportunities until Kris was in school. A short career in a ladies boutique was rewarding and expanded her creative abilities as a personal shopper and fashion coordinator.
Making one more move to Colorado brought a new challenge and quickly learned the necessary skills as a legal receptionist where she made new friends, expanding her skills. Her heart however was in creating art and in particular, water color painting. A skilled decorator, she created a home that was warm and inviting while looking like it came out of a magazine.
The move to Colorado also provided an opportunity to increase her involvement in her church activity, taking on the job as wedding coordinator. Her one goal was to make the bride and groom's desires become a reality. She accepted the challenge conducting the rehearsal and wedding day activities. This fulfilling ministry was cut short with the discovery of stage 3C breast cancer in 2005. Her faith, along with support from Glenn carried her through chemo, surgery, radiation and reconstruction. Dealing with side effects and set backs from infections were a challenge. Her faith and determination were more than sufficient to overcome.
While dealing with these challenges Joy saw a sign offering water color classes at Hobby Lobby and finally was able to realize her desire to be creative and develop the skills necessary to master the media. Being he own worst critic, she poured her energies into her painting and was able to produce many excellent works in a wide range of subjects.
The years of learning and practicing her skills created a strong confident woman who was a very lovely, beautiful wife and mother that was always helping others. She was able to bring light and life where ever she went. A positive attitude and the knowledge that she was in His will, being held up by His hands shone through. Providing everyone she encountered with a friendly smile as she willingly gave of herself.
Thank you Joy for 55 years of life together, 53 as my beautiful bride.
Always and Forever, your devoted husband. Glenn
