John Henry was born in 1928 in Elm Springs, AR., but grew up in Carson, OK. Proud to call himself an Oklahoma Native, or “Okie”, his father was a southern Baptist preacher and his mother a housewife who had her hands full caring and raising seven children. He was the youngest of the family of seven and was the last surviving sibling. He spent the majority of his professional life as a truck driver and heavy equipment operator, where his journeys took him all across the country. It would be these stories that he would use to entertain the grandchildren with wild tales of when he was younger. He was a caring and compassionate man, his favorite past time was his music. It was not uncommon to see him strumming his guitar for others, he loved how it made others smile. He was very proud that he was invited to play at the Worlds’ Fair in New York City in 1965. And his musical stylings continued all throughout his life, even playing in the rehab hospital a few short weeks before passing. He enjoyed gambling and would often travel to Blackhawk to try his hand at the casinos during his later years. He was also an avid Rockies and Broncos fan and would rarely miss a game, no matter how well they were doing that season. He loved his wonderful wife, Betty Henry, of 53 years and cared for her very dearly until she passed in 2009. They had four wonderful children together and he was very proud of each and every one of them in their different, and widely ranging, accomplishments in life. He is survived by his four children, Terry Henry (wife Patty Henry), Pamela Henry, Beckie Wanrow, (husband Dale Wanrow), Julie Klein (husband Richard Klein), nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren with two on the way!
