Johnny was born Feb 7th, 1932 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
His parents were Erven and Helen Johns. Dad was a painter and paper hanger. Mom was a homemaker. Mom could do anything. She could plant a garden, or crochet a beautiful scarf.
Johnny had two sisters. Lois and Marilyn, and one brother, Bob. Lois passed in 2013. Bob passed in 2016. So that made Johnny and I even closer.
We all went to Broad Ripple High School in Indpl's, Ind. Johnny graduated in 1950. Mom said that as a young man, Johnny and his friends would set on the porch and talk about how they would change the world. So, Nov. 5th, 1951 he joined the Navy. He was a 2nd Class Gunners Mate on the USS Valley Forge.

Good Conduct medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and Navy Occupation Service medal (Europe)
He was Honorably Discharged from the Navy Oct. 31, 1955.
After the Navy Johnny went to Chicago to learn about refrigeration and air conditioning. That became his career. Mom and Dad moved to Colorado in 1963.  Johnny and I moved too. Johnny loved Colorado. We all used to go camping after Mom and Dad bought a small camper. Johnny eventually bought his own.
Johnny practically gave me my first car. It was a black 1961 Studebaker Lark, two door hard top. I thought it was a pretty sharp little car. Johnny said that he would sell his car to me for what ever I had in the bank. Well, as a teenager I always had something to spend my money on. And that is why I say that he practically gave me my first car.
Johnny was always there. If you needed help with something, he was there. Now, when I come home, I look at the answering machine, but no messages.
Johnny, you were my brother, but you were also my friend. I love you!

Uncle Johnny always used to call me 'Stringbean', and I always used to tell him that he was my favorite (even though he was my only) Uncle. He'd always laugh and tell me that there were no special treats for saying that.
I loved it when Uncle Johnny would visit my Dad in Florida, especially when we could see him and Aunt Marilyn at the same time.  The road trip to Pennsylvania to see my husband and me was also a memorable surprise.
Uncle Johnny was a proud Conservative, and watchful of the country he loved and served.  We thank you posthumously for your service in the Korean War.
We will always love and remember you and your favorite pooch, Nicky, too!
